RESEARCH TO PREVENT MEMORY LOSS

Dementia Research Switzerland - Synapsis Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt foundation under Swiss law. The foundation is under the authority of the Federal Department of Home Affairs. The foundation was established 21 years ago on the basis of the realisation that research on dementia, particularly Alzheimer's, has become increasingly important in light of recent demographic developments.

OUR OBJECTIVE

The Synapsis Foundation was established to support research on dementia and other neurodegenerative disorders in Switzerland. We primarily focus on research into Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia. By pooling resources, we hope to have a lasting impact, one day hopefully leading to a cure for Alzheimer’s.

OUR WORK

Generally, research is largely funded by the state and private sector. We recognise the need to invest additional funds into researching dementia, particularly Alzheimer's, to find a cure in the near future. Our work also helps promote Switzerland as a research and business location by supporting the establishment of young research groups. The Synapsis Foundation has already supported over 120 research projects and provided over CHF 30 million for research.

OUR RESPONSIBILITY

We take steps to ensure that the funds entrusted to us are used as intended to improve our understanding of the causes behind Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative disorders and to find new evidence for their diagnosis and treatment. Our Scientific Advisory Board is instrumental in selecting the best research projects and following their progress.

HOW WE WORK

Our donors, boards and researchers work hand in hand towards a common goal – a world in which Alzheimer’s can be stopped in its tracks. We engage in targeted fundraising activities to reach out to private and institutional donors. Thanks to their generous support, we have been able to make a key contribution to the research of neurodegenerative disorders.

Offices

The employees at our offices are the first point of contact for any queries you may have. They maintain relationships with our donors. Our offices provide a hub for the Board of Trustees, Scientific Advisory Board and researchers. Our employees are responsible for ensuring that all of the foundation's work is carried out in line with our statute and the law.
